The Butler County Fair is among the
many things to do and places to see in the region. Every September
the fair presents livestock, crafts, flower shows, baked goods and
carnival rides. Greenville itself sponsors the annual Sweet Gum
Bottom Blues Festival with a cook-off, vendors and entertainment.
Other events include Celebrate America, Old Time Farm Day, the

Sweet Potato Festival, the Watermelon Jubilee and more. Music lovers
also flock to Butler County to visit Hank Williams, Sr.'s birthplace
in Georgiana. The community celebrates its favorite son with a
down-home festival each June full of finger-pickin' music and finger-lickin'
barbecue.
With the completion of a 14 million-dollar, state-of-the-art high
school in Greenville, the Butler County Board of Education has
demonstrated its dedication to the importance of our children's
futures and those of generations to come. Greenville High School,
Greenville Middle School and W.O. Parmer Elementary all serve the
educational needs of students, while Georgiana and McKenzie high
schools serve the needs of our other communities. Higher educational
needs are served by LBW College, a community college that offers
several options in degreed programs. Private education is also an
option, with Fort Dale Academy, and Camellia City Christian Academy
offering quality instruction.
Area healthcare needs are served by L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital
which offers a 24-hour trauma and emergency center, a senior care
unit, nuclear medicine, ultrasound services, in-house physical
therapy, a dialysis unit, and pain management and MRI services. Other
area facilities include the Doctor's Hospital in Georgiana, the Crowne
Health Care of Greenville with 63 beds and a 118-bed skilled nursing
facility, the nearby Georgiana Nursing Facility with 81 beds, and
Homewood and Pine Needle Place. Hospice and home health services are
also available through Comfort Care Hospice, Alacare and Vanguard Home
Health. |
